Ruth joined Ascend in September 2023, from a large Multi Academy Trust in the Southwest. Previously Ruth has worked cross phase leading Teaching & Learning and the Professional Development Pathway for all Teachers. Ruth is passionate about all teachers being the very best they can be, she has previously led on all aspects of ITT and the Early Careers Framework, working with national providers and Teaching Hubs to roll out with schools. Ruth has also been a Director of a Teaching School for 5 years facilitating and leading school improvement work, including having multiple school leadership roles as required.

A Design Technology teacher by training Ruth is passionate about curriculum development and believes all children should have access to a high quality, rigorous, ambitious, and broad curriculum that ensures that week by week students know more and know how to do more.

Ruth has had a varied career, working for national MAT Oasis and educational charity Teach First after starting her teaching career in the Midlands. Ruth remains a Director for a large Primary MAT in Plymouth, sitting on the Curriculum and Standards Board.
