Martin Brotherton - Trustee
Martin has been shaped by a 30-year career in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, the technical arm of the British Army. His career was varied and ranged from fixing battle tanks in Germany to mentoring the National Police in Afghanistan.
Now his experience and expertise will help as he work as a trustee for us in the Ascend Learning Trust.
He made the most of the opportunities offered by the military, having joined the Army straight from school as a fresh-faced 16-year-old and, by the time he departed, had completed a Master’s degree in Systems Engineering and become a Chartered Engineer.
On leaving the Army, Martin moved into the utilities industry and held numerous leadership roles encompassing assurance, planning, financial management and stakeholder management.
Outside of work, Martin strives to keep physically fit and takes the opportunity to travel when he can.
